About our book prices

To request a review copy

We are happy to provide complimentary review copies to qualified college faculty for consideration for course adoption. Please access the form “Request a Review Copy” from the information page of the book you’d like to preview. Please be sure to provide complete course information when filling out the form.

Review copies are also available if under consideration for professional development courses or programs. Please use the form linked from the book information page, or phone us if the form does not allow you to provide relevant program information.

Review copies do not need to be returned. If you decide the book is not right for your course or program, consider passing it along to a colleague or keeping it in your library for future reference. We believe that the best way instructors and other professionals can get to know our books, our authors, and our company is by seeing and interacting with the books. Our books speak for themselves!

To offer feedback on a review copy

If you have recently received a review copy of one of our books and would like to send us your comments, please complete the form linked here (or email us at info@hh-pub.com).

If you are interested in reviewing a project

The peer review process is a critical component of academic publishing, and textbooks especially benefit from critique by experts in the field. This process yields important feedback on the book’s content, and allows us to hear from potential adopters—those who teach the very classes that may use the book. Reviewers offer valuable comments regarding the textbook’s subject matter and provide suggestions on how the text can be made more useful for both instructors and students.

If you would like to be considered as a reviewer for one of our future publications, please complete the form linked below. When we have a project that fits your area of expertise, we will contact you about reviewing.

REVIEW FOR US

FAQs About Reviewing

What will I be reviewing?
Materials sent out for review vary depending on the type and status of the project. The content you receive may range from a proposal to a full manuscript. We will let you know what materials to expect when we contact you about a review.

How long do I have to complete the review?
We usually ask that the review be completed within a month.

How will you get the materials to me?
We usually send one-sided, double-spaced hard copies of the materials via UPS. We still find that it is easier for reviewers to offer close attention to a physical page than to a screen. Because of this, we ask that you provide an address where you can receive packages.

Will I receive any payment?
We do provide an honorarium upon completion of the review; you will be informed of the amount of that honorarium when you agree to do the review.

Will the authors know who provided the review?
It is up to you whether the review is open or blind. We provide the review to the authors “as-is,” so if you provide your name on the final review, and you do not indicate that you would like to remain anonymous, the author will receive that information.

I was told that the manuscript is a “tear sheet.” What does this mean and how do I work with it?
When a book is going into a new edition, most authors choose to make changes directly onto a copy of the previously printed book. A tear sheet manuscript is composed of single-sided copied pages that include the original printed version and the author’s written changes. Changes of a couple sentences or fewer are made directly onto the copy. Longer changes or additions are included as inserts near their intended location. When reviewing a tear sheet manuscript, consider and comment on the author’s changes as if they were part of the final book.

What do I do with the materials afterward?
You need to return only your review to us and may dispose of any copies sent to you. Please recycle if possible. If you write comments right on the materials, you may send, fax, or scan and email those pages to us along with your review.

Our Pricing Policy

We price our books competitively, with your students in mind. Although we know that price is only one factor you consider, we encourage you to compare our prices to those of other texts under consideration. Please note that college bookstores may choose to charge more for our book than our recommended list price (which is shown on the book’s information page on this site). Your students can order books directly from our site, where they will receive a 10% discount off the suggested list price.
